Russia builds the first 5G mobile network city

Not long ago, Russia’s largest telecom operator MTS, using China’s Huawei 5G mobile network technology, launched a 5G mobile communication network in Kronstadt, St. Petersburg, Russia, which is the first 5G mobile network built in Russia. city.

During the same period, the Moscow City Government and MTS used Huawei’s 5G technology to build a 5G network test area in the “National Economic Achievement Exhibition Hall” in Moscow to test the “Smart City” solution.

According to relevant Russian professionals, preliminary tests show that Huawei’s 5G technology works well and represents the world’s high level in the field of 5G mobile network technology. In the future, MTS plans to cooperate with mobile phone manufacturers to launch 5G mobile phones to the Russian market from the end of 2019 to the beginning of 2020.

5G network construction equipment is valued

Russian President Vladimir Putin made it clear in July this year that Russia should occupy a global leading position in high-tech development such as 5G to ensure the country’s technological sovereignty. The Russian government has signed agreements with Russian state technology group companies, Russian telecommunications companies and other large companies. Related agreements to jointly promote the development of Russian 5G. The deployment of 5G networks is one of Russia’s priorities. According to the “Russian Federation Digital Economy” national plan, by 2021, Russia will establish 5G networks in 10 million-population cities and establish 5G networks in all major cities in Russia by 2024.

Huawei helped build the first 5G city

The city of Kronstadt is located on the Gulf of Kotlin in the Gulf of Finland. It is 29 km from St. Petersburg and has a population of 44,000. It was the military port of the Baltic Fleet during the Russian and Soviet periods. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the city was first opened to foreigners in 1997 and is now one of the military ports of the Russian Baltic Fleet.

It is reported that the first 5G mobile network built-in Kronstadt is deployed in a non-independent (NSA) mode, consisting of 8 base stations, of which 5 base stations use a 4.9 GHz band and 3 use 28 GHz. Eight base stations basically cover the entire city of Kronstadt. By the end of September this year, four additional 4.9 GHz band base stations will be added here. MTS said that in the 5G network test in Kronstadt, the measured 5G network speed reached 1.2Gbps (gigabits per second), which can fully guarantee the use of 5G mobile phones. As planned, in the initial phase, the 5G network in Kronstadt will be used only by key institutions and will be used to develop innovative application technologies such as driverless vehicles, the Internet of Things, telemedicine, tourism and education services, virtual and Augmented reality products, etc.

The head of MTS in St. Petersburg said that Huawei, as the world’s most advanced 5G mobile network technology company, always regards user experience as the first choice. I believe that with the support of Huawei’s 5G technology, the city can be in smart cities, the Internet of Things, information security solutions, and transportation. The monitoring, environmental protection, production areas, and government management work play an important role.

5G network test area on stage in Moscow

The Moscow City Government and MTS, using Huawei’s 5G technology, established a 5G network test area in the “National Economic Achievement Exhibition Hall” in Moscow to test the “Smart City” solution. At the same time, 5G labs will be established in the test area to study 5G network applications, including cloud rendering, remote gameplay, ultra HD streaming, virtual reality/augmented reality (VR/AR), 360-degree video, Internet of Things and A new format for calculating and storing data.

The Moscow city government plans to expand the 5G network test area to the entire National Economic Achievement Exhibition Hall, Moscow’s famous Tverskaya Street, Gorky Park, and Sparrow Hills by 2020, for the development of driverless vehicles in Moscow. Internet of Things, telemedicine, virtual and augmented reality products. It is reported that two frequency bands of 28 GHz and 4.928 GHz are also used in the test area.

The head of Moscow MTS said that at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum in 2019, MTS signed a cooperation agreement with the Moscow city government, and MTS will invest 20 billion rubles for the construction of the Moscow 5G network. By 2025, Moscow’s 5G traffic will increase sevenfold, which means that in order to develop the communications infrastructure of the capital Moscow, develop the capitalist economy, and provide high-quality digital services to Moscow residents, Moscow must accelerate the construction of 5G mobile communication technology.

Moscow City Information Technology Bureau Director Lai Xinke said that the purpose of the Moscow City Government is to build Moscow into a world-class digital city. Cooperation with world-class IT technology companies such as Huawei will promote the development of innovative application technologies in Moscow and promote the Moscow Internet of Things. The rapid development of technologies such as driverless traffic, telemedicine, and artificial intelligence has made life in Moscow more convenient and comfortable. (Reporter Dong Yingwei)
